Career

Irina Kalinina won at the FINA World Championships in 1973 , FINA World Championships in 1975 and the FINA World Championships in 1978 five world titles overall. At the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal , however, she experienced a disappointment. At the age of 17, she only reached seventh place on the three-meter board. From the ten-meter tower she also missed a medal with fourth place behind Jelena Waizechowskaja , Ulrika Knape and Deborah Wilson , although she had chosen the jumps with the highest degrees of difficulty. In 1979 Kalinina moved to Moscow to study sports there. Her trainer, Boris Klintschenko , accompanied her. At the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow , she won the gold medal from the three-meter board ahead of Martina Proeber and Karin Guthke , both of whom came from the German Democratic Republic. In 1981 Irina Kalinina finished her sporting career with bronze from the board at the European Swimming Championships .
