The Gauliga Baden was one of 16 football Gauligen that were introduced as the top division in the German Reich after the National Socialist seizure of power in 1933. The Gauliga champion (or from 1940 area champion) was played in the Gauliga Baden until 1945.

history

The Gau classification 1933,
No. 14 = Baden

In the Baden Gauliga, ten teams usually played for participation in the final of the German football championship. The respective Gauliga champion was qualified for the final round. From 1939 the league was divided into seasons and the champions were determined in a final round, after which there were only single-track leagues in the seasons 1940/41 and 1942/43 . Because of the war, the 1944/45 season started only in the North Baden group and ended in January 1945.

A total of 37 teams managed to qualify for at least one of the eleven seasons of the Gauliga Baden. The battle for the Baden championship title was dominated by the two Mannheim clubs VfR Mannheim and SV Waldhof Mannheim with five championship titles each. Only in 1941 was VfL Neckarau , also from Mannheim , able to break through this dominance. Waldhof also secured the Gaume Championship in 1944/45, but at that time the game was only played in North Baden. In the subsequent finals for the German championship, however, the Baden champions were usually eliminated early. SV Waldhof managed to advance to the semi-finals in 1934 and 1940 , where they failed at FC Schalke 04.
