Gayle McKeachnie

Gayle F. McKeachnie (born January 26, 1943 ) is an American politician . Between 2003 and 2005 he was Lieutenant Governor of the state of Utah .

Career

Gayle McKeachnie graduated from the College of Southern Utah in Cedar City . After completing a law degree at the University of Utah and being admitted to the bar, he began working in this profession. He specialized in natural resource law and real estate law. In the meantime, he also gave law lectures at Brigham Young University . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1978 and 1986 he was a member of the Utah House of Representatives . From 1987 to 1999 he was a member and for ten years chairman of a commission for the revision of the state constitution.

In 2003, Governor Michael Leavitt was appointed health minister to the cabinet of US President George W. Bush . His successor as governor of Utah was the previous lieutenant governor Olene S. Walker . This appointed McKeachnie as her successor in the office of lieutenant governor. He held this position between 2003 and 2005. He was the governor's deputy. In addition, he practically exercised the office of Secretary of State existing in most other states , which does not exist in Utah and whose functions are incumbent on the lieutenant governor. In 2004, McKeachnie attended the Republican National Convention in New York as a delegate , where President Bush was nominated for re-election.

After his tenure as Lieutenant Governor, McKeachnie remained connected to politics. He is considered an expert in rural affairs and gas and oil development. He is a member of some corresponding organizations.
