Geert Van der Stricht

Geert Van der Stricht (born February 11, 1972 in Deurne (Flemish Brabant) ) is a Belgian chess player . He won the Flanders championship several times . In 2003 he won the Belgian individual championship in Eupen ahead of Alexandre Dgebuadze .

Life

Geert Van der Stricht studied electromechanics at the East Flemish Katholieke Hogeschool Sint-Lieven. He works as a research assistant at the Hogeschool Gent .

For the book publisher of the Alkmaar chess magazine New In Chess , he wrote volumes 3 to 6 of the series Tactics in the Chess Openings about chess openings together with the Dutch grandmasters Friso Nijboer and Sipke Ernst . A new edition of his books with Friso Nijboer in the Dutch original is announced for 2009: The titles Winnen met het Damegambiet and Winnen met het Frans are to be published by the Utrecht publishing house Bijleveld Press .

With the Belgian national team, he took part in four Chess Olympiads between 2000 and 2006 : on the fourth board in 2000 and 2002 and on the third board in 2004 and 2006. He achieved a positive overall result of 22.5 points from 40 games (+16 = 13 −11). He also played for Belgium at the 2003 European Team Championships (on the first board) and 2005 (on the second board).

He played club chess in Belgium in the 1990s for KGRSL Gent , with whom he took part in the European Club Cup in 1998 and 1999 . He then played for Boey Temse . With the club he took part in the European Club Cup 2002. In 2006 he moved back to KGRSL Gent and became Belgian team champion in 2016 . In the Netherlands he first played for HWP Sas van Gent (with whom he was represented in the Meester class in the 1996/97 and 2001/02 seasons ), since September 2003 his club has been HMC Calder Den Bosch , with whom he joined the European Club Cups 2005 and 2014 participated. He also plays in French team championships for the Club de Reims Echec et Mat . Geert Van der Stricht, who learned to play chess from his father, has the title of International Master . He achieved his first grandmaster norm in the 2007/08 season in the Belgian team championship. His Elo rating is 2387 (as of June 2020), which puts him in 17th place in the Belgian Elo ranking. His highest rating to date was 2468 in October 2003.
