Georg Minkenberg

Georg Minkenberg (* 1955 in Mönchengladbach ; † March 10, 2016 in Aachen ) was a German art historian and head of the Aachen Cathedral Treasury from 1994 until his death .

From 1974 to 1984 Minkenberg studied art history , classical archeology , prehistory and early history and Catholic theology at the University of Cologne . In 1984 he was born with the work “Die plastische Marienklage. A contribution to their origins and their spiritual foundations “to the Dr. phil. PhD .

From 1984 Minkenberg was initially a research assistant at the Aachen Cathedral Treasury and from 1985 head of the painting and graphics, sculpture, textiles and photo archive departments there as well as the restoration workshop for painting and sculpture. In 1990 he coordinated the establishment of a restoration workshop for the textiles in the cathedral treasury, which he took over in 1991. A year later he took over the organization of the 3rd International Congress for Ancient Textiles.

Since 1994 he has been director of the Aachen Cathedral Treasury.

Minkenberg gave numerous lectures on topics of medieval and early modern art and published several writings.
