Gerberga of Burgundy

Gerberga of Burgundy (* 965 or 966; † July 7, 1019 ) came from the Burgundian royal house. Her first marriage was to Count Hermann I of Werl and her second marriage to Duke Hermann II of Swabia .

She was a daughter of King Konrad III. des Friedfertigen (Pacificus), Duke of Burgundy ( Welfen ), and his second wife Mathilde of France, a daughter of Louis IV of France . She was also a niece of Empress Adelheid and King Lothar of France and a niece of Otto I. Thus she was related to both the Carolingians and the Ottonians .

Marriage to Hermann I. von Werl

She was married to Hermann I , Count von Werl , who died around 985 in her first marriage since around 978 (?) . From this marriage she already had several children: Hermann, who succeeded his father as Hermann II , and his brothers Rudolf (also called Ludolf) and Bernhard (I.) . According to current knowledge, the daughter Gisela von Schwaben does not come from this marriage.

At her request, Otto III. the Stockhausen estate , previously owned by a deceased outlaw, the Meschede monastery . She was the founder of the Oedingen monastery , located in the county of her son Hermann II von Werl in the Lochtrop district .

Marriage to Hermann II of Swabia

In her second marriage, around 988, she married Hermann II , Duke of Swabia († May 4, 1003), a Conradin .
