Gerda Boenke (born October 12, 1913 in Berlin , † November 10, 1944 in Berlin-Plötzensee ) was a German worker and critic of the National Socialist regime. She was murdered in 1944 because of her comments critical of the regime.

Gerda Boenke lived in Berlin-Friedrichshain and was the mother of three children and a worker in a machine tool factory in Friedrichshain Krautstrasse 52. She was a member of the Communist Youth Association (KJVD) and later the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). She was critical of the National Socialist regime among her work colleagues and was denounced. On November 9, 1944, she was sentenced to death, the invalid judgment was carried out the following day.

Honors

  • A street in the Berlin district of Weißensee is named after Gerda Boenke .
  • Together with six other people, she is mentioned by name on the memorial stele erected in 1975 for anti-fascist resistance fighters on the corner of Koppenstrasse and Singerstrasse in Berlin-Friedrichshain.
  • A plaque commemorating her name at the former factory location at Krautstraße 52 was removed in 1989.
  • In Görlitz the Gerda Boenke Street was named after her.
