Geremi Sorele Njitap Fotso (born December 20, 1978 in Bafoussam , Cameroon ) is a former Cameroonian football player . He is best known as Geremi .
Geremi started his career with Racing Bafoussam in his homeland of Cameroon. In 1997 he moved to Cerro Porteño , where he was only used briefly before he moved to Gençlerbirliği in Turkey that same year . After two years he went to the Spanish record champions Real Madrid . He stayed there for three years and was two-time UEFA Champions League winner and one Spanish champion. In 2002 he was loaned to Middlesbrough FC . There the fans voted him Player of the Season. During this engagement in the Premier League , Chelsea became aware of him and signed him for a transfer fee of six million pounds .
In the summer of 2007 he moved to Newcastle United . For the second half of the 2009/10 season Geremi moved a second time to Turkey to MKE Ankaragücü . After only six months at the capital club, he moved to AE Larisa . From the beginning of 2011 to 2012 Geremi was without a club, then he announced the end of his career.
National team
Geremi is a Cameroonian international . In 2000 he was part of the team that won the gold medal at the Olympic Games . In 2002 he played at the World Cup and took part in the Africa Cup in 2004 and 2006, respectively . He was also in the squad for the 2010 World Cup and played all 3 games for Cameroon at this tournament.
