Gerhard Schmidtchen

Gerhard Schmidtchen (born May 17, 1925 in Hamm ) is a German sociologist whose contributions to social psychology and the religious sociology of the Christian denominations received special attention.

Schmidtchen graduated from high school in Hammonense in 1944 ; The later literary scholar Karl Otto Conrady was also a high school graduate . After completing his studies, Schmidtchen worked at the Institute for Demoscopy (IfD) in Allensbach . From there he was appointed associate professor of social psychology and sociology at the University of Zurich in 1968 and full professor there in 1970. Schmidtchen taught until his retirement in 1990 as a full professor . In 1990 Schmidtchen received an honorary theological doctorate from the Evangelical Theological Faculty Erlangen-Nürnberg. From 1990 to 1992 Schmidtchen taught as a visiting professor at the University of Leipzig .
