Gertenbach is a district in the northwest of the city of Witzenhausen in the Werra-Meißner district in North Hesse .

Gertenbach lies above the east bank of the Werra and is the last town in Hesse on the right .

Geographical location

Gertenbach lies at an altitude of 135  m above sea level. NHN above the east bank of the Werra and is the last town in Hessen on the right . The built-up area extends to the western foothills of the sand forest up to a height of about 190  m above sea level. NHN . The Dieffenbach and the Hübenbach flow through Gertenbach and flow into the Werra right next to the village.

history

The first mention of the place can be found by Bishop Meinwerk and falls in the year 1032. At that time, Gardenebiki was given as the place name . Further variations of the name can be found as Gardelbic , when the place was one of the Northeimer allodial goods . Furthermore, a Conradus de Ghardenebeke is listed among the Münden councilors in 1323 and 1327 . In 1342 a Ludwig de Ghardenebeke appears , on the 1347 Conradus von Ghardenebeke jun. follows. In 1070 the place was the scene of a church meeting. A monastery is said to have stood on the site of today's church from ancient times. In 1836 a new rectory was built. Gertenbach owned 2 mills and 650 inhabitants in 1871 with Hübenthal and Berlepsch Castle ; today about 950 people live in the village. Gertenbach belonged to the Hessian office Ludwigstein / Witzenhausen until 1821 and then to the district of Witzenhausen . During the French occupation, the place belonged to the canton Friedland in the Kingdom of Westphalia (1807-1813).

On 1 January 1974 Gert Bach was in the course of administrative reform in Hesse powerful state law in the city Witzenhausen incorporated .

On September 23, 1987, Gertenbach was hit by a tornado that damaged 47 houses. There were 200 firefighters on duty. Despite the scale, only four people were injured.

Gertenbach is the seat of a Protestant parish. It belongs to the Witzenhausen parish of the Evangelical Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck . In 1944, the district of the Ellerode manor, which had previously belonged to the Hanoverian regional church, was assigned to the parish.

traffic

The place is on the B 80 and has a stop on the Halle – Hann railway line. Münden , which is served by the cantus transport company between Kassel and Göttingen . In Hedemünden there is a connection to the A 7 .
