Gil Ofarim (born August 13, 1982 in Munich as Gil Doron Reichstadt ) is a German rock musician who is both solo and lead singer of the bands Zoo Army and Acht. occurs. He also works as an actor , musical actor, voice actor and radio presenter.

Private life

Gil Ofarim is the son of the Israeli singer Abi Ofarim (1937-2018) and his third wife Sandra. Like him, his brother Tal Ofarim was a candidate for The Voice of Germany and is also a member of Zoo Army . Gil has been married to Verena Brock since December 15, 2014. The two have a son (born 2015) and a daughter (born 2017). In March 2018, the separation of the couple became known.

Music career

As a teenager , Gil Ofarim was discovered in 1997 for a photo love story in the youth magazine Bravo , in which he played a musician. From this commitment his music career developed. Initially under the name Gil , he achieved chart placements with titles such as Round 'N' Round (It Goes) , Talk To You , Never Giving Up Now and If You Only Knew . In 1998 he toured Asia for three years .

Since 2003 he has performed as Gil Ofarim. In June of the same year he appeared in the Munich Olympic Stadium as a support act for the rock band Bon Jovi after Jon Bon Jovi had been made aware of the young musician by a concert promoter. In 2005 Ofarim founded the rock band Zoo Army, which released their debut album 507 in March 2006 . In 2007 he delivered two songs for the German soundtracks of Disney movies: In Triff die Robinsons he sang More than you can see , and for Verwünscht he interpreted the ballad So nah! .

In 2008 Ofarim founded the band Acht. who, in addition to many festival appearances, was the opening act for the tour of Alex Band , the singer of The Calling . In 2010 he founded his own label with Neuzeitstürmer. Eighth's debut album, Imagine , was released in 2010. In 2012 he took part in the second season of the casting show The Voice of Germany and made it to the quarter-finals in Xavier Naidoo's team . With his cover versions of Iris ( Goo Goo Dolls ) and Man in the Mirror ( Michael Jackson ) he was able to place himself in the charts. In 2016 he played a leading role in the musical Hair performed by Theater Magdeburg on Magdeburg Cathedral Square.

By February 2017 Ofarim had sold around five million records worldwide.

At the beginning of 2017 he acted as a vocal coach in the RTL show It Takes 2 and achieved second place with candidate Rebecca Siemoneit-Barum . In the same year he contributed the German theme song for the series Nils Holgersson on KiKA , a new edition of the animated series “ Wonderful Journey of Little Nils Holgersson with the Wild Geese” . At the beginning of 2018 he acted as a music sponsor for the KiKA show Dein Song .

His new album Alles auf Hope was released on February 28, 2020 .

Film and television roles

In 1998 Ofarim had his first role in the series Good Times, Bad Times , in which he played himself for five episodes. In 2004 he worked in the ProSieben production Endlich Sex! and in 2006 in the two-part TV series Die Sturmflut . Also in 2006 he was seen in the psychological thriller Strip Mind . In 2008 he worked in an episode of the youth detective series Ein Fall für BARZ , and in 2010 in the crime series Ein stark Team . In 2015 he got a recurring role in the German mystery television series Arman's Secret .

In 2017 Ofarim took part as a candidate in the 10th season of the RTL show Let's Dance and won together with dance partner Ekaterina Leonova . Also in 2017 he worked in the movie comedy Unter German Beds and in Das Wasser des Lebens from the fairy tale series Six on a Prank on ARD . He also played in two episodes of the RTL series Everything was counts itself. After Ofarim had already contributed music to several German versions of film and television productions, he took on the dubbing role of the character Capper in My Little Pony: The Film in 2017 . In July 2017 he was in front of the camera for a campaign for the Tom Ford label .

In 2018 Ofarim won the Star against Pietro Lombardi in the ProSieben production Schlag . In 2019 Ofarim took part in the Sat.1 production Das große Promibacken . In 2019 he took part in the 1st season of The Masked Singer as "Grasshopper" and took 2nd place. In May 2020 he took part in the Free European Song Contest for Israel and finished fifth. He was also a candidate in the ProSieben program Die! Heart! Blow! Show!
