Gil Popilski ( Hebrew גיל פופילסקי; * October 6, 1993 in Israel ) is an Israeli chess player .

Life

Gil Popilski attends Shevah Mofet High School in Tel Aviv . He is trained by Grandmaster Boris Alterman at the chess academy attached there . He comes from Rischon LeZion and played together with Boris Gelfand in the local club Feldklain Rischon LeZion in the highest Israeli league. In 2012 he took part in the European Club Cup with Hapoel Rischon LeZion .

successes

At the U14 European Championship in 2007 in Šibenik , he reached third place behind Sanan Sjugirow and Dariusz Świercz , and he won the U16 European Championship in 2009 in Fermo . In 2011 he became Israeli U20 champion in Tel Aviv. Popilski took part with the Israeli national team at the 2013 European Team Championship in Warsaw . He has held the title of International Master since April 2010. He achieved the norms for this at the Elitzur Stav tournament in Petach Tikwa in November 2008 with overachievement, in the A group of the Moscow Open in February 2009 and in the A group of the Czech Open in Pardubice in August 2009 (also with over-fulfillment). He has been a grandmaster since January 2013. He achieved the norms in the Israeli team championships in 2010 and 2012 and at the European championships in 2012 in Plovdiv .
