The McEwan's Lager Golden Masters was a 1978 and 1979, a total of two times, be transmitted Snooker -Einladungsturnier. The tournament was played in both cases with four selected leading players in both the 1977/78 and 1978/79 seasons sponsored by McEwan’s in the Northern Irish town of Newtownards in County Down . Welsh Doug Mountjoy and Ray Reardon were each winner once , with Reardon playing the highest break in tournament history with a 123 break in the first edition.

The first edition of the tournament took place in June 1978 in Newtownards under the sponsorship of the Scottish brewery McEwan’s , to which the Welshmen Ray Reardon and Doug Mountjoy , the Englishman Graham Miles and Dennis Taylor from Northern Ireland were invited. A total of £ 2,000 in prize money was awarded, of which £ 750 went to the winner. The tournament was won by Doug Mountjoy in an all-Welsh final, who defeated Reardon 4-2. The next year the tournament was played again in June in Newtownards with the same four players, but the total prize money dropped to now £ 1,250. Reardon reached the final again and won 4-2 against Graham Miles. Afterwards, however, no further tournaments took place.
