List of Snooker Main Tour tournaments

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Marked in blue: Countries that have already hosted at least one Snooker Main Tour event or for which one has been announced for the current season

This list gives an overview of the tournaments of the Snooker Main Tour since the introduction of the snooker world rankings in the 1976/77 season.

First of all, under "Current tournaments (2018/19)", the tournaments that can currently be found in the calendar of the Main Tour are listed, under "Former tournaments" follow those that are no longer taking place. Some tournaments have had different names over and over again in the course of their history (for example, due to a change of sponsor), listing all of them would go beyond the scope of this list. However, if a fundamental renaming has taken place, this is listed in the section Additional information .

Until 1981/82, the world rankings resulted exclusively from the results of the previous three world championships. Only then did other tournaments receive the status of world ranking tournaments. At the World Cup, however, twice as many points were awarded compared to the normal tournaments. For some time now, the UK Championship and the Grand Prix have also had a higher priority. The Grand Prix, later renamed the World Open , was denied this special status before the start of the 2010/11 season.

In the 1992/93 season four so-called minor ranking events were held, which were only rated with a tenth of the usual number of points. The Players Tour Championship , introduced for the 2010/11 season , is also a series of tournaments with fewer points to be won.
