The St. Leon-Rot Golf Club in St. Leon-Rot is one of around 750 golf clubs in Germany. It was founded in 1997 by the entrepreneur Dietmar Hopp and has hosted the European golf championships Deutsche Bank Players Championship of Europe several times . There is also an official performance center of the German Golf Association here .

Golf course

The 6,541 m long golf course in St. Leon was designed by the British golfer and architect Dave Thomas , which is why it resembles Scottish and Irish courses in some places . Hole 18 of the square was the final track of the Deutsche Bank / SAP Open in 2002 .

At the Rot course designed by the architect Hannes Schreiner , the golf course was integrated into the existing floodplain landscape so that numerous biotopes were preserved. Since 2001, the 6,587 meter course has often received the Golf Journal Travel Award as “Best Golf Course in Germany” . In the eyes of the publishers of the golf magazine, hole 9 is one of the "Top 500 holes in the world". The facility also has a children's and a short course .

At the end of 2012, the golf course was declared a state performance center by the Baden-Württemberg Golf Association .

Conservation concerns

Stork's nest on the club grounds

The construction of the golf course was made as environmentally friendly as possible. The fertilization is carried out in an environmentally friendly manner. Pheasants , hares, deer and storks live on the site . Since the facility was built without fences, it can be used for local recreation for people from the region. In 2013 the golf club received the DGV gold plaque due to the environmental concept .

Events

In the past few years, the St. Leon-Rot Golf Club has hosted over 3,000 national and international tournaments. The golf club achieved international fame in 1999, 2001, 2002 and 2004 when the renowned Deutsche Bank / SAP Open golf tournament was held there, in which golfers such as Tiger Woods, Lee Westwood and Colin Montgomerie took part.

In September 2015, the Solheim Cup 2015 was held on the club's premises , with the club also acting as an organizer. The continental comparison of female professional golfers between Europe and the USA took place for the first time in Germany. The United States won.

Allianz Golf Arena
