history

Until the church is planted

Even today, the foundation walls of a large Roman manor point to the settlement in the Celtic-Roman times. Grabenstätt was first mentioned in a document on June 8, 959 in a document from King Otto the Great in Salzburg. The area around Grabenstätt is led as comitatus Teginberti (County of Reginbert) at the beginning of the 10th century . This administrative area essentially comprised old populated land. Grabenstätt, which was initially a Salzburg land register, came back to Bavaria in 1275. The area remained arable in Salzburg, but judicially and under state sovereignty it fell to Bavaria. Grabenstätt Castle became the seat of an open court market, which was owned by the Counts of Rheinstein and Tattenbach in the 18th century . In 1803 the Hofmark is dissolved. The Bavarian original cadastre shows Grabenstätt in the 1810s as a church village with 62 properties and two cemeteries.

In 1818 Grabenstätt became an independent political municipality as part of the municipal edict under King Maximilian I Joseph (Bavaria) .

About a dozen historic buildings from the 16th to 19th centuries have been preserved in the community as architectural monuments .
