history

The place goes back to an underground lignite mine . After test bores and the issuing of appropriate permits, the decision to build the mine was taken on August 29, 1845. The mine was operated in the form of a cooperative and was located at the foot of the Lehmberg . To the north the mine area extended to Morl, the western border ran parallel to the Magdeburger Chaussee that ran through the town . After only three years, funding was initially discontinued in 1848 due to insufficient funding, but then resumed in 1855.

On April 14, 1857, the resumption of mining was confirmed by the Eisleben Mining Authority after new test boreholes had found a thicker coal seam. However, the quality of the coal was rather poor. There was a sloping track leading down from the surface to enter the pit. The mining took place at a depth of 39 meters. In addition to the entrance tunnel, there was also a tunnel through which the pit water was led into the Faulengraben , which is known today as the Schachtgraben . In 1857 around 9,000 tons were mined, in 1857 already 22,000 tons. In the years that followed, the average annual production was around 20,000 tons. It is assumed that the promotion took place only in the warm season.

Contrary to the trend at the time, the Ferdinande mine was not merged with neighboring mines, but remained independent.

In 1905, 22 men were employed in the mine. In addition to 15 miners, there were two supervisors, a machinist and four unskilled workers. However, the place had a total of 580 residents, 107 of whom were indirectly or directly related to mining.

The Cröllwitzer Actien paper factory leased the mine from January 1, 1922 for a period of 20 years. She had already acquired the union's share certificates in advance. The aim was to ensure a constant supply of coal. The mine employed 30 people who worked in a two-shift system. Due to the inefficiency of the production, however, the closure of the mine was announced on January 23, 1932. At that time, one employee and 33 workers were employed in the Ferdinande mine.

The mine buildings were demolished at the beginning of March 1933. The high chimney of the plant was demolished on March 7, 1933.
