history

Gut Böckel

The moated castle was first mentioned in 1350. It was initially owned by the knight Alhard, called Rape von dem Bussche . The first castle stood northeast of the current complex. This Altenböckel probably came to the von Hake family around the middle of the 15th century , who had their ancestral home in Scheventorf Castle near Bad Iburg . The Böckel manor was then divided. The von Hake owned the part that, like the Bieren farmers, was parish off to Rödinghausen. This Altenböckel was later also called Hakenböckel after those of Hake. Nothing is left of the manor buildings today. The other part, which mainly belonged to the parish of Bünde , was owned by the von Quernheim family (see Neufeld and Griese). These had acquired their part from the von dem Bussche-Gesmold family before 1495. By inheritance, this part of the property came to the von Voss family around 1540 . After them, the estate was called Gut Vossböckel for around 200 years . In 1689, von Voss acquired Hakenböckel (Altenböckel) and thus reunited the goods. Today's baroque complex with two characteristic corner towers dates back to 1682. In 1763 the estate came to Wilhelm Rudolf von Buttlar through the marriage of the daughter of von Voss who inherited it. In 1771 he sold the estate to Ernst ldel von Vincke , who also owned the Kilver family . In 1820 the estate was sold to the previous tenant Friedrich Gottlieb Köhne. In 1842 the estate was sold to Gustav Delius . In 1874, Leopold Koenig bought the estate for his son Carl Koenig . His daughter Hertha Koenig was born at Gut Böckel . Hertha Koenig was a poet, art collector and patron. In 1927 she took over the management of the estate and the neighboring Waghorst estate . Together, the estates were the largest property in the Herford district. When Hertha Koenig died in 1976, the property fell to the Norwegian and her great-nephew H.Jörgensen. The current owners are the entrepreneur Ernst Leffers and his wife Karen Leffers, who took over the estate in 1991. Karen Leffers (born May 26, 1935) is an honorary citizen of Bielefeld University .

Cultural events

The Hertha Koenig Society was founded in 1994 to commemorate Hertha Koenig's work. The company awards the Hertha Koenig Literature Prize endowed with 4,000 euros. The first prize winner was Irina Korschunow . Gut Böckel is the location of cultural events and thus ties in with the tradition of the founder of culture Koenig, at whom the poet Rainer Maria Rilke was a guest for several weeks in the summer of 1917 and lived in the estate's "Rilketurm". Concerts take place in a 120 year old former cowshed or in the manor park. The musical events include the Russian Summer concert series with top orchestras such as The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra from London, the Northwest German Philharmonic , the St. Petersburg Cello Ensemble and an orchestra under the direction of Justus Frantz . In addition, there is the literature and music festival, routes through the country, with concerts, readings and lectures at Gut Böckel in summer . A Christmas exhibition has been held at Gut Böckel for several years in Advent. The Roggenhaus is the scene of gastronomic offers.

Sculptures are exhibited in the manor park. The listed park, which is rarely open to the public, was created at the end of the 19th century. It is surrounded by a moat and consists of a geometrically laid out part and a two-hectare landscaped park with beautiful old solitary trees. The garden was designed in 1890 by the garden architect Rudolph P. C. Jürgens . The park has been part of the European Garden Heritage Network since 2005 . In summer, international artists present their art in the Ostwestfalen-Lippe garden landscape project . Emilia Kabakov's installation Meet the Angel has been on view in the park as a permanent exhibition since 2003. The caves are fed by the Darmühlenbach . The park is around 2.5 hectares. The park was monument of the month in Westphalia-Lippe in September 2010 .
