The Krengerup castle on the island of Funen in Denmark is the mansion of the same name Gutsanlage. The estate is located in the former municipality of Glamsbjerg . There are various museums and collections as well as a publicly accessible park on the estate, the manor itself is not open to the public.

history

The name Krengerup appears for the first time in 1514. Around 1600 Gabriel Knudsen Akeleye (1591–1608) turned the estate into a manor. From 1783 to 1917 the estate was called Frederikslund, after which it was given the old name Krengerup again. The estate has been owned by the Rantzau family since 1770, when Christian Rantzau bought the estate . Between 1772 and 1783 Frederik Sigfred Rantzau restored the castle to its present state.

The mansion

The three-storey main house is a transverse, white classical building from 1772. The architect was Hans Næss , who, however, also worked with influences from his teacher NH Jardin . Of the fifteen window axes on the main front, three form a central projection with a large staircase that leads to the piano nobile above a high base and an architrave supported by four pilasters . The middle part is flanked by five window axes, which are delimited by two single-axis corner projections, each with a small balcony. The large undivided hipped roof makes no reference to the division of the facade. Most of the interior furnishings date from 1770 to 1780.

The so-called Rantzau table is kept on Krengerup ; a large-format family tree of the family, the edge of which is adorned with fifty of the Rantzau mansions. The family tree was commissioned by Heinrich Rantzau in the 16th century and made by Daniel Freese .

The economic buildings and the museums

The three-wing complex around the farmyard directly in front of the main house consists of uniform half-timbered buildings with thatched roofs from 1771. Since 2001, the Škoda Museum has been housed in an old barn (1773) of the castle. Here, among other things, various models (1937-2004) of this Czech automobile brand are presented. There is also a flax weaving museum with jacquard looms on the premises.
