The Ricarda-Huch-Schule (RHS) in Braunschweig is a general education, usually four-class high school in the Nordstadt district in the immediate vicinity of the Neue Oberschule high school .

history

In 1939 the “Second Municipal High School for Girls” was founded in Leonhardstrasse. In July 1944 it was renamed after the Braunschweig writer Ricarda Huch (1864–1947). In 1964 the school moved from Leonhardstrasse to Mendelssohnstrasse and thus became a neighbor of the Neue Oberschule. In 1976, co-education was introduced and boys were included for the first time.

Since the dissolution of the orientation levels in the 2004/2005 school year, the school has had a branch in Gliesmarode where the 5th and 6th grades are taught. The branch is a good kilometer away and can be reached on foot or by tram line 3.

School offer

The open all-day school focuses on the language area and includes grades 5 to 13.

languages

The school offers various modern foreign languages as well as Latin. English is taught as the first foreign language; the second foreign language can be French, Latin or Spanish. There is also a bilingual branch where history and biology are taught in English.

Project day

Since 2018, the Ricarda on Tour day has been replaced by a project day on which every student can devote himself to a project. Students can also submit their own projects and lead them with the support of a teacher.

Additional offers

The school offers a wind class for grades 5 and 6. Students in grades 7 to 13 have the opportunity to play in the school's “big band” or “symphonic wind orchestra”.

The eighth grades complete a one-week ski training course in the Bavarian Forest as part of their sports lessons . In the upper level there is the possibility to take part in another skiing holiday in the Saalbach-Hinterglemm ski area .

The “belated Nikolaus volleyball tournament” takes place every year, in which mixed teams play a challenge cup for secondary levels 1 and 2.

canteen

The students in grades 7 to 13 can use the cafeteria of the Technical University on Beethovenstraße , which is a few hundred meters away . There is no cafeteria because the headmaster only wants to accept healthy offers, but these are not economically viable. A professional caterer provides lunch for the students at the branch office (grades 5 and 6).

Cooperations and projects

Since 2007 the school has continuously participated in the project " Environmental School in Europe / International Agenda 21 School". In 2017 the school was recognized as a school without racism - school with courage .
