Haardter Castle

The Haardter Schloss , more rarely - because of its delicacy - Haardter Schlössel or - named after the builder - Villa Clemm , is a castle-like villa building in the district of Haardt on the Weinstrasse of Neustadt an der Weinstrasse ( Rhineland-Palatinate ).

Geographical location

The Haardter Castle stands at 220  m above sea level. NHN on the eastern slope of the Haardt above the district of the same name. It was built on the northeastern edge of the site of the medieval Winzingen Castle , which once belonged to the Count Palatine near the Rhine .

history

Winzingen Castle was built in the 10th and 11th centuries and repaired several times after warlike events. In 1696 it was so badly damaged during the Palatinate War of Succession when bombarded with cannons that it finally fell into ruin in the course of the 18th century despite makeshift repairs . In 1804, after French revolutionary troops had conquered the German territories on the left bank of the Rhine for the French state, the nobility and the churches were expropriated and their real estate was auctioned . In this way, the ailing Winzingen Castle and the surrounding area came into private ownership. The wealthy merchant Neustadter Schuster designed the site with considerable effort into a park-like garden and built to the rest of the Palas for Kelterhalle out.

Commerzienrat August Ritter von Clemm , one of the co-founders of BASF , acquired the area in 1875. He had the castle built from 1876 to use it as a stately home. It wasn't until 1893, when a round pavilion and a large terrace were completed, that the construction work was completed. From 1928 to 1971 the Haardter Schloss served as a spa and recreation home , later as a hotel and restaurant . In 1971 the current owner acquired the entire facility. The main building was restored and rebuilt from 2002 onwards, and wallpapers from the 19th century were found behind the wall cladding.

Todays use

Haardter Schloss is now home to living rooms and the exhibition forum for photography called Gute Aussichten . The hillside location allows a wide view over the Rhine plain . Part of the site is generally available to the public for inspection; however, the owner has reserved the right to close the property if necessary.
