course

The Haargraben rises in the natural area of the Kassel Basin in the Kassel district. Its source is in the Frau-Holle-Land Geo-Naturpark (Werratal.Meißner.Kaufunger Wald) on the lower northwest slope of the Kalkberg ( 224  m above sea  level ) and on the lower northern slope of its foothills Kacksberg (approx.  205  m ). It is located on the southern edge of the Niestetal district of Heiligenrode at about 185  m altitude in the Heiligenrode Park , a green area with ponds, sports facilities and a playground.

Initially, the Haargraben flows westward through the southwestern parts of Heiligenrode. When you then cross under the federal motorway 7 , he leaves the geo-nature park. At the same time it enters the area of the city of Kassel and its district of Bettenhausen . There the brook flows openly west-northwest along the residential street Bunte Berna, which is laid out on both sides of the water . After crossing under Heiligenröder Strasse in the sewer system, it runs north-west openly along Niestetalweg . The stream then flows openly to the northeast to Mündener Straße , along which it runs in the sewer system to the northwest. Then it crosses under Sandershäuser Straße and flows along Huthstraße  - both also in the sewer system.

The Haargraben runs into the area of the Niestetal district of Sandershausen and thus back into the Kassel district. Its lower section near the mouth flows in the natural area Fuldaaue and in the bird sanctuary Fuldaaue near Kassel (VSG no. 4722-401; 8.2893 km²). The brook passes the Sandershauser housing development to the west, with a northerly direction of flow running parallel to the residential street Wiesenweg .

Shortly thereafter , the stream flows into the Fulda at about 135  m above sea level between the Losse estuary in the west-southwest and the Nieste estuary in the north-northeast . This Weser source river flows at the mouth of the Haargraben on the border between Sandershausen and the Kassel district of Wolfsanger / Hasenhecke . Immediately on the Fulda at the mouth of the stream there is a bank at 135.5  m height.
