Hainan Airlines ( Chinese 海南 航空公司 ) is the largest private Chinese airline based in Haikou and based at Haikou-Meilan Airport .

history

Hainan Airlines, based in Haikou, was founded in 1993 and built as part of the HNA Group , a Fortune Global 500 company that focuses on tourism, logistics and financial services and operates several other airlines. This company holds shares in Hainan Airlines both directly and indirectly through its investments - including in Haikou-Meilan Airport . The largest shareholder in Hainan Airlines with 35% is Grand China Air .

In January 2011, Hainan Airlines was awarded 5 out of 5 stars by Skytrax as the first and so far only Chinese airline. To date, Hainan Airlines has been continuously among the top 10 airlines worldwide.

On April 15, 2014, Hainan Airlines decommissioned its three remaining Airbus A340-600s and announced in March 2015 of the following year its intention to acquire 30 Boeing 787-9s. Two leased Boeing 787-9 aircraft were delivered in spring 2016; the delivery of the remaining Boeing 787-9s should be completed by 2021.

On October 13, 2018, the fleet was expanded to include the first A350 .

Following the connection of the airline to international standards, Hainan Airlines has since expanded its network to include international routes. In the first half of 2018, the company launched several new international long-haul services, including Haikou-Sydney, Shenzhen-Brussels, Guangzhou-Tel Aviv, Shenzhen-Zurich and Shenzhen-Vienna, Shenzhen-Madrid, Changsha-London and Shenzhen-Vienna. Hainan Airlines serves over 1000 domestic and international routes serving nearly 100 cities worldwide. The Fortune Wings Club is a frequent flyer program for Hainan Airlines passengers and those of the HNA subsidiaries. Club members can earn miles with airline, hotel, credit card, rental car and other partners.

The Hainan Airlines logo is a simplified representation of Garuda , a mythical bird, and is red and yellow.

As part of the HNA Group , this logo is also used officially.

The colors red (红 hóng) and yellow (黄 huáng) are traditionally used in China to express luck, success and wealth.

The airline is also known under the name of the group of companies, or HNA for short .
