Career

Drews began his coaching career at the age of 16 in the youth of TuS Nortorf . There he was initially responsible for the U17 and U19. At the same time, Drews still played actively himself, but had to give up his playing career due to various knee operations. In the 2010/11 season he then coached the senior team of the association league .

After a year as a men 's coach , Drews moved to Holstein Kiel , where he initially acted as assistant coach of the A juniors (U19) for six months , but later as head coach of the B1 juniors (U17) for three and a half years . For the 2016/17 season he took over the U19 as head coach.

In September 2017 Drews switched to the second division club FC Erzgebirge Aue as head coach . There he succeeded Thomas Letsch, who had previously been dismissed . With FC Erzgebirge he managed to stay in relegation against the third placed in the 3rd division .

At Hannes Drews's request, the current contract with FC Erzgebirge Aue was terminated at the end of the 2017/18 season.

For the 2019/20 season , Drews took over the second team (U21) of Hamburger SV , which played in the fourth-class Regionalliga Nord . He finished the season, which was interrupted in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic and later canceled, in 14th place. By then, the team had played 22 games. For the 2020/21 season, Drews switched to the coaching staff of the professional team and, alongside Merlin Polzin, became the second assistant coach of the new head coach Daniel Thioune , with whom he had successfully completed the football coaching course in 2016 .
