Hans Heinrich (born November 2, 1911 in Berlin ; † November 5, 2003 there ) was a German film and television director and film editor .

Life

The son of the chief engineer Alfred Heinrich and his wife Else geb. Petermann grew up in Berlin-Charlottenburg , where he attended the Herder-Gymnasium. He shot his first film for the amateur film group “Around”.

After dropping out of chemistry studies at the Technical University, he trained as a film maker at the Fikopa photocopier. In 1937/38 he directed short films for the German Labor Front . From 1939 he worked in the field of film editing for various production companies until he was drafted into the Wehrmacht. Heinrich was stationed as a soldier in Berlin and Prague.

After the end of the war, he worked at DEFA as an editor and alongside Wolfgang Staudte as an assistant director. In 1949 he was able to direct a feature film for the first time for the Elbschiffer comedy The Kahn of Happy People based on the novel of the same name by Jochen Klepper . His most important directorial work in the following years was the hit film Meine Frau macht Musik with Lore Frisch and Günther Simon .

Despite his success with the public, Heinrich, who lives in West Berlin, had increasing difficulties with the DEFA management. At the end of the 1950s he turned away from DEFA and the GDR. An attempt to gain a foothold in Mexico with his wife Marianne ended with his return to West Berlin. In the 1960s, Heinrich found new opportunities to work in German cinema and increasingly in television. He eventually became a busy series director. From 1978 he directed episodes 7 to 52 of the popular television series Drei Damen vom Grill . He must not be confused with the cameraman Hans Heinrich (born March 19, 1929 in Berlin).
