Liebeserwachen is a German Heimatfilm melodrama from 1953 by Hans Heinrich with Winnie Markus , Ingrid Andree and Willy Eichberger , returning from Hollywood, in the leading roles.

action

The action takes place in Chiemgau in Upper Bavaria. This is where the pretty, young Anna lives, the granddaughter of the old potter Urban. One day she meets the painter Michael Rainer, who has returned to his old Bavarian homeland after many years of absence. Anna immediately falls in love with the much older man. But he has long since kept an eye on the celebrated pianist Sybill Berg. Her ex-boyfriend, the riding instructor Peter von Prahm, doesn't like this at all, and there is promptly intense friction. In a fit of jealousy, Prahm shoots his rival, who, however, can be saved from the worst thanks to Anna's intervention. After the spirits have calmed down everywhere, the young woman realizes that Michael has decided on Sybill and that both belong together. She returns to her wise grandfather and howls her heartache to him.

Production notes

Love Awakening was made in the summer of 1953 in the CCC-Film studios in Berlin-Spandau and on the Chiemsee and the surrounding area and was premiered on October 22, 1953 in the Tübingen Metropol-Kino. The Berlin premiere was on November 20th of the same year.

Heinz Laaser was in charge of production. Rolf Zehetbauer and Albrecht Hennings designed the film structures, Ursula Stutz designed the costumes.

Reviews

Der Spiegel wrote: “Director Hans Heinrich was obviously looking at the box-office“ green heath ”of German films and at the same time tried to ring the fine“ evening bells ”of the social and emotional drama. The result is not as bad as the role models, but it is even more boring. Rolf von Nauckhoff rides and dies stiffly as a riding instructor and Rittmeister a. D. for his blonde pianist (Winnie Markus). Willy Eichberger tries shyly in the Clark Gable compartment, and Ingrid Andree bathes naked in the Chiemsee, which - according to the Munich critics - is the only real thing in this film. "

The lexicon of international films says: "Banal, unworldly and sentimental home film."
