Harry Allen

Harry Allen (born October 12, 1966 in Washington, DC ) is an American tenor saxophonist specializing in mainstream jazz .

Live and act

Harry Allen's father was a big band drummer; he grew up in Los Angeles and Burrillville, Rhode Island , and began performing professionally at the age of 16. He studied at Rutgers University , where he received his bachelor's degree in 1988. He then settled in New York, where he currently plays in a quartet with guitarist Joe Cohn (with Joel Forbes on bass, Chuck Riggs on drums). He also played a. a. with guitarist John Pizzarelli , his father Bucky Pizzarelli , saxophonist Scott Hamilton , pianists Keith Ingham , George Wein and John Colianni , as well as with Jeff Hamilton , Warren Vaché and Mike Karn . He also worked with jazz greats like Flip Phillips , Sweets Edison , Ruby Braff , Lionel Hampton , Clark Terry , Frank Wess , Hank Jones , Ray Brown , Kenny Burrell , Rosemary Clooney , Gus Johnson , Terry Gibbs . He tours regularly outside of the USA in Europe and Japan.

Three of his 30+ CDs won the Japanese Swing Journal's Gold Disc Award . Furthermore, he also took u. a. with Tony Bennett , Johnny Mandel , Sheryl Crow , Kenny Barron , George Mraz , Tommy Flanagan and Jake Hanna .

He's in the movie "Out of Towners" ( Sleepless in New York ) in 1999 (with Steve Martin , Goldie Hawn heard) in the soundtrack Johnny Pizzarelli Trio ( "That Old Black Magic") and in a cameo to see.
