Scott Hamilton (* 12. September 1954 in Providence , Rhode Iceland ) is an American jazz - tenor saxophonist of Swing , that of the since the 1990s as a leading saxophonist Mainstream Jazz applies.

Hamilton initially worked in the New England states before moving to New York in 1976 . There he played first with Roy Eldridge , Tiny Grimes , Carol Sloane and with John Bunch and on his recommendation in the orchestra of Benny Goodman . In the late 1970s he played a lot with Warren Vaché and Ruby Braff, and accompanied Rosemary Clooney . In the 1980s he toured as a soloist with the Concord Jazz All-Stars and the Newport Jazz Festival All-Stars by George Wein , of which he has been a member since 1985. He has released more than 35 albums under his own name. He has also recorded with musicians such as Gerry Mulligan , Woody Herman , Flip Phillips , Al Cohn , Cal Tjader , Charlie Byrd and Red Norvo . It occurs frequently in the UK. Since 2013 Scott Hamilton has also performed as a prominent accompanist for Andrea Motis and supports her with his saxophone playing. Hamilton plays with Motis and her teacher Joan Chamorro both in the Sant Andreu Jazz Band made up of students from the Sant Andreu music school and in various other formations.
His style is influenced by Ben Webster and Don Byas and is based on the classic swing and mainstream saxophonists such as Coleman Hawkins , Chu Berry , Lester Young and Zoot Sims .
