Harry Reems , actually Herbert Streicher (born  August 27, 1947 in New York City , New York , †  March 19, 2013 in Salt Lake City , Utah ) was an American theater and porn actor .

Life

Harry Reems started his career around 1969 with his first roles in sex films, in which he was usually not mentioned. In 1972 he played the male lead in Deep Throat , the most successful porn film of all time. According to the portrayal in the documentary Inside Deep Throat , he was initially hired as a lighting technician for the film before he became a short-term actor. Reems and the main actress Linda Lovelace received a fee of only US $ 1200 each, while the film grossed around US $ 600 million according to various estimates. After this success, Reems became one of the well-known porn actors of the 1970s and 1980s; he also acted under numerous pseudonyms.

For his work in Deep Throat he was arrested by the FBI in July 1974 for gang-wise distribution of pornography across state borders and convicted in April 1976. However, the charges were dropped in August 1977 after an appeal and a change in the law. His legal counsel was Alan M. Dershowitz . In the 1978 film Grease , Reems should have played the role of coach. Paramount Pictures gave the role to Sid Caesar , however , as protests against Reems are said to have threatened the success of the film.

In the late 1980s, Reems retired from the business and went on a drug addiction treatment to combat his drinking problems. In 1990 he married the deeply religious Jeanne Sterret, converted to Christianity himself and worked as a real estate agent in Park City . Reems, who had pancreatic cancer , died on March 19, 2013 in a Salt Lake City hospital of acute liver failure .

  • With the "Harry Reems Athletic Club" Harry Reems had an unofficial fan club that supposedly had over 44,000 members worldwide.
