Linda Lovelace (born January 10, 1949 in New York City , † April 22, 2002 in Denver , Colorado ; actually Linda Susan Boreman ) was one of the most famous American porn actresses of the 1970s.

Life

Linda Lovelace grew up in the Fort Lauderdale area . According to her own account, she had a very strict mother who she regularly beat as a child. At 20, Lovelace had an illegitimate child who was given up for adoption by her mother. Through a high school friend, she met her future husband, Chuck Traynor , when she was 21 shortly after a serious traffic accident . She described the time with Traynor in her autobiographical book Ordeal (Martyrium), which was published in Germany under the title The Truth About Deep Throat (later: I unpack ). In it, she described how Traynor, after what was initially a very pleasant time, increasingly abused her, beat her and forced her into prostitution . According to her account, Traynor also forced her to marry him so that she could not testify against him in a drug trial or report him.

Lovelace began her career as an actress in hardcore porn films at the age of 19 and has appeared in several porn films, including at least one such animal pornographic content featuring a dog. In 1972 she worked under her pseudonym in the film Deep Throat by Gerard Damiano , the most profitable film of all time. The film grossed an estimated $ 600 million at a production cost of $ 25,000. Linda Lovelace received a fee of $ 1,250 for the lead role.

First, she defended the film "Deep Throat" against criticism. Many years after her first husband, Chuck Traynor's divorce in 1973, Lovelace stated that he had force her to work as a porn actress through gun violence. In 1980 she wrote in her autobiography Ordeal that the relationship had been shaped by violence , rape , forced prostitution and the demands of her job as a porn actress. This contradicts the testimony of porn actor Ron Jeremy , who stated that these allegations were not true; however, Jeremy is not mentioned in the cast list for the film. Her former film partner, Harry Reems , also contradicted the portrayal of Lovelace from the film set. In an interview, he said that while Traynor was an "a-hole" "who didn't die too early," Linda was never physically abused during the production of Deep Throat.

Lovelace testified before a congressional committee dealing with pornography and gave numerous lectures at universities. She always dealt critically with the humiliating and exploitative practices in the porn industry.

Darwin Porter, screenwriter of a film about Linda Lovelace, claims that she was taken advantage of by the women's movement. However, there is no statement from Lovelace personally.

In the 1990s she worked on soft porn recordings. As depicted in the bonus footage from the Making of Deepthroat movie , Lovelace claimed to be proud that even in her fifties she was still handsome and suitable for adult shooting.

On April 3, 2002, she rolled over twice in an accident with her SUV and suffered serious injuries. On April 22, 2002, the life support devices were turned off and Lovelace died at the age of 53. Linda Lovelace was buried in Parker Cemetery, Parker , Douglas County , Colorado, USA.

Amanda Seyfried starred in the 2013 film adaptation of the biography, Lovelace , based on Boreman's life.
