Harry Secombe

Sir Harry Donald Secombe CBE (born September 8, 1921 in Swansea , Wales, † April 11, 2001 in Guildford , England ) was a British actor and singer .

Life

In 1949 Harry Secombe formed together with Peter Sellers , Spike Milligan and Michael Bentine the "stupid group" Goons , which appeared successfully on the radio from 1951 under the title The Goon Show . Secombe played in movies and countless television programs and also acted (incidentally) in musicals.

His name appeared on the British charts for the first time in 1955 with "On With The Motley", a top 20 hit. His greatest success after another top 20 listing in 1963 was a new version of "This Is My Song" in the spring of 1967, which took it to number 2 in the UK. The number had been written by Charlie Chaplin . The album Yours Sincerely , which was released in 1991, was awarded a silver record in Great Britain .

In 1953 Harry Secombe was appointed "Commander of the Order of the British Empire " (CBE), and in 1981 he was promoted to Knight Bachelor .
