At the age of ten he joined the soccer club of his hometown Jablanica , the FK Turbina Jablanica . At the age of 14 he played for FK Velež Mostar and was appointed to the U-15 and U-16 national teams of Yugoslavia. The war in Bosnia in 1992 caused the parents to send 15-year-old Salihamidžić to live with relatives in Hamburg .

Hamburger SV (1992 to 1998)

After three years in the youth department of Hamburger SV , Salihamidžić received a licensed player contract for the professional squad and soon became a regular Bundesliga player. He is considered one of the most successful football players in Hamburger SV.

FC Bayern Munich (1998 to 2007)

When his contract with HSV expired in 1998, he received inquiries from several clubs, including FC Barcelona , Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund . Salihamidžić opted for FC Bayern Munich , whom he had already seen at the age of 14 in Belgrade at the European Cup match on April 24, 1991 against Red Star Belgrade (2-2).

He celebrated his greatest successes with Bayern Munich, winning the World Cup and the Champions League . In the final against FC Valencia , which was decided by penalty shoot-out , Salihamidžić was able to convert his penalty . Munich lost the game for the UEFA Super Cup in a duel with Liverpool in 2001 with 2: 3 following their Champions League triumph against the reigning UEFA Cup winners - despite a goal from Salihamidžić.

Juventus Turin (2007 to 2011)

At Juventus Turin he was used either as a left or right midfielder , sometimes in the back four in the two full-back positions. In 2011, his expiring contract was not extended.

VfL Wolfsburg (2011 to 2012)

Therefore, Salihamidžić moved back to the German Bundesliga for VfL Wolfsburg on July 4, 2011 . In a test match in July 2011, he suffered a broken forearm and had to train and play with a bracer.
