House Auensee

The Haus Auensee is - next to the Arena Leipzig - an often used concert hall for national and international artists in Leipzig . The capacity is around 3600 standing or 1500 seated visitors. It is named after the adjacent Auensee .

history

For the construction of the main train station in Leipzig at the beginning of the 20th century, gravel was used, which was taken in Wahren from the ground near the former "Hundewasser", a tributary of the White Elster . The remaining pit was filled with water to form what is now the Auensee . In 1908 the "Bank für Grundbesitz Leipzig" planned an amusement park there, which was opened in 1912 as the " Lunapark ". In 1911 construction began on the main restaurant, today's Haus Auensee. On May 5, 1914, the construction of the new house was accepted.

In 1913 the lido was put into operation and approval for the small Luna Express was granted: a Liliput train , named after the island from Gulliver's travels . There were restaurants, rides and a popular mountain scenery train, a form of roller coaster built between 1900 and 1920. There was also a hippodrome - a race track for horse and chariot races. At that time, the Lunapark was advertised with the slogan "Germany's largest entertainment establishment with half a million square meters".

As a result of the global economic crisis at the beginning of the 1930s, Luna-Park GmbH had to file for bankruptcy and was foreclosed on January 13, 1932, in 1934 most of the amusement facilities were demolished. Only the restaurant building remained and has been called Haus Auensee since 1936 .

After 1949 Haus Auensee reopened as a HO restaurant .

The Auensee house in 1956

From 1981 to 1985 Haus Auensee was rebuilt in a four-year construction period. It reopened on October 5, 1985.

In the 1990s Haus Auensee was run under the name Easy Auensee and reopened as a disco on November 13, 1998 under the name Luna-Park , but there were financial problems and the property was only used sporadically for concerts under forced administration. In 2009 the adjacent beer garden was put back into operation.

Concerts and events have been taking place again since 2010 under the new operator "MAWI Concert" with Managing Director Matthias Winkler. Winkler is now also the owner of the property and has carried out renovations in the concert hall. This can now be divided into different sizes and enables the size of the hall to be adapted to the respective number of visitors.

Today Haus Auensee is known far beyond the region as a stage for rock and pop concerts - and another insider tip as a place to relax with boat rentals, a playground and Leipzig Park Railway, the successor to the pioneer railway that opened in 1951, around the lake. Camping Auensee has been located directly across from Gustav-Esche-Straße since 1969.
