Heiner Bremer (born July 11, 1941 in Pinneberg ) is a German journalist , television presenter and former politician ( FDP ).

Life

Bremer studied law and political science and passed his second state examination in 1970 . He then worked for Stern magazine for 19 years and was one of three editors-in-chief from 1986 to 1989 . In 1987 he was responsible for the decision to put the photo of the politician Uwe Barschel lying dead in the bathtub on the front page of the magazine. He then moved to Axel Springer Verlag as company spokesman. In 1981 he and Wolf Perdelwitz published the book Geisel Europe with a map of the situation of thousands of nuclear weapons on German soil at the Berlin publisher Olle & Wolter , which caused a sensation and lastingly enriched the debate about armament and disarmament efforts. He became known on television through the midnight news program RTL Nachtjournal on the private broadcaster RTL , which he developed from the end of 1993 and directed and moderated from January 3, 1994 to January 6, 2004. From 2004 to 6 June 2016, he presented the news channel n-tv , the talk show The duel on n-tv .

Since the end of his talk show, Bremer has continued to appear on n-tv on current political occasions as the station's political expert and comment on events.

He has been married to Christl Rehmenklau-Bremer since 1969; the couple has two children.

politics

Heiner Bremer was FDP district chairman in the Pinneberg district until 1971 , then a member of the Schleswig-Holstein FDP state executive until he left the party in 1982 . In 1970 he was federal chairman of the Young Democrats , the former youth organization of the FDP. Like the entire organization, it was regarded as left-wing, so that the later Bavarian FDP chairman, Josef Ertl , called for Heiner Bremer to be excluded from the FDP in 1970 on the basis of the Berlin Manifesto of the Young Democrats, which established similarities between socialism and liberalism . He described him as an " adept of socialist ideas".
