Theo Schiller (born February 5, 1942 ) is a German political scientist and left-liberal politician ( FDP until 1982 , then LD ).

Studies and professional career

Theo Schiller studied law, political science and sociology in Tübingen , Hamburg , Bonn and Frankfurt . In 1965 he passed the first state examination in law and received his doctorate in political science in 1968 with Karl Dietrich Bracher in Bonn. He then worked as a political advisor in Bonn. In October 1973 he was appointed to a professorship for political science at the Philipps University of Marburg . Schiller was temporarily dean of the social sciences and philosophy department, managing director of the Institute for Political Science and chairman of the examination board for the diploma examination in political science and sociology. From 1997 to 2001 he was Vice President of the University of Marburg.

Party activity

Schiller joined the Liberal Student Union of Germany in 1962 when he was studying in Hamburg and was elected its deputy federal chairman in 1963. He was chairman of the Young Democrats from 1974 to 1976 and a member of the FDP until 1982. Between 1974 and 1980 he was a member of the federal executive board . After the turnaround in 1982 he was co-founder and first deputy federal chairman of the left-wing split-off Liberal Democrats , for which he ran in the state elections in Hesse in 1983 in the constituency of Giessen I and received 0.5% of the votes.

Schiller was one of the authors of the Perspektiven program, which attempted to continue the Freiburg theses at the FDP federal party conference in Kiel in 1977 , but failed because of the majority of the party.

Schiller was temporarily a member of the board of trustees of the Wolf-Erich-Kellner Memorial Foundation . He has been a member of the Historical Commission for Hesse since 1999 . From 1974 to 1985 he was a member of the Advisory Board of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation .
