Heinrich Georg Alfred Detmers , called Heinz Detmers , (born April 20, 1919 in Norden ; † June 8, 1999 Weddelbrook ) was a German SS-Obersturmführer and was employed as an adjutant to the camp commandant in the Dachau and Dora-Mittelbau concentration camps .

biography

At the age of 17, Detmers became a member of the SS (SS no. 309.930) and later of the NSDAP ( member number 5.545.920) before completing his commercial training . Detmers embarked on the career of an SS officer and in 1940 became adjutant in the Dachau concentration camp under the camp commandant Alexander Piorkowski . Detmers, who was called "Bubi" in Dachau because of his young age, held this position until the end of February 1942. He was then transferred to the 1st SS Infantry Brigade on the Eastern Front as a member of the Waffen SS at his own request .

In December 1943 he was employed as a liaison officer between Office Group D of the SS Economic and Administrative Main Office (WVHA) and the Buchenwald subcamp Dora-Mittelbau . From December 1943 to November 1944 he also acted in Dora Mittelbau as an adjutant to the camp manager Otto Förschner , where he was responsible for the matters of the commandant's staff, handling correspondence, telephone calls, managing the vehicle fleet, the commandant's office and providing practical support to the camp manager responsible. From May 1944 he was also responsible there as an SS court officer with the investigation of crimes that had been committed by members of the camp SS.

After several weeks of illness, he moved in autumn 1944 to WVHA and was then still in the satellite camp Hersbruck the Flossenburg used.

After the end of the Second World War , on January 6, 1947, he was indicted together with Piorkowski in a subsidiary trial of the Dachau main trial as part of the Dachau trials . Detmers, who had no individual criminal offenses, was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment on January 17, 1947, due to his position as adjutant in Dachau for participating in crimes in the Dachau concentration camp, which was later reduced to five years in prison. Detmers was also accused in the Dachau Dora Trial , which also took place as part of the Dachau Trials from August 7, 1947 to December 30, 1947, and in which he was sentenced to seven years in prison. During the trial, Detmers admitted that he had slapped prisoners in the face and was present at roll calls and executions. After serving his sentence, he was released on January 3, 1951 from the Landsberg War Crimes Prison . On the same day he was arrested by the German police and released after an unsuccessful investigation. Detmers returned to his hometown Norden and worked as a salesman. He later worked for a margarine company, where he rose to the position of general sales director. Nothing is known about the further life of Detmers, who was married twice and had at least two children.
