Henry II ( French : Henri II de Brabant , Dutch : Hendrik II van Brabant ) (* 1207 ; † February 1, 1248 in Leuven ) was Duke of Brabant and Lower Lorraine since the death of his father Heinrich I in 1235.

He was one of the supporters of his nephew Wilhelm von Holland when he was elected Roman-German king .

Heinrich II's first marriage was Maria von Staufen (* March / April 1196, † before 1235 in Leuven), daughter of the German King Philip of Swabia . Heinrich and Maria had six children:

    2. ⚭ November 1247 in Leuven Wilhelm von Dampierre , Count of Flanders (* 1224; † June 6, 1251).
  5. Maria von Brabant (* around 1226; † January 18, 1256 in Donauwörth ); ⚭ Ludwig the Strict Duke of Upper Bavaria ; she was executed by her husband on suspicion of infidelity.
  6. Margarethe († March 14, 1277), Abbess of Herzogenthal .

In his second marriage, Heinrich married Sophie von Thuringia (* March 20, 1224, † May 29, 1275), daughter of Landgrave Ludwig IV and St. Elisabeth , from whom he had two children:

  1. Heinrich I (* 1244; † 1308), 1263 Landgrave of Hesse .
  2. Elisabeth (* 1243 - † October 9, 1261), ⚭ Braunschweig July 13, 1254 Albrecht I, Duke of Braunschweig-Lüneburg

Henry II was buried in Villers-la-Ville .
