Heinrich Lachmann

Franz Heinrich August Lachmann (born August 3, 1797 in Braunschweig ; † November 5, 1872 ibid) was a German pedagogue , doctor and biologist as well as a member of the Masonic lodge " Carl to the crowned pillar ".

Life

Lachmann was born as the second son of Karl Ludolf Friedrich Lachmann and his second wife Johanna Elisabeth Conradine (née Heyer, 1777–1797), daughter of the Hagenmarkt pharmacist Heyer, who was married in 1796 . His father was a pastor at the St. Andreas Church in Braunschweig. After completing his school education at the Katharineum, Lachmann began studying at the "Collegium anatomico-chirurgicum" of the Collegium Carolinum in Braunschweig and then studied medicine in Berlin and Göttingen. In 1819 he settled in his hometown as a medic and obstetrician. Lachmann was used as an officially appointed poor doctor in public health care since 1821. On the side he worked as a teacher at several schools such as the Gesamtgymnasium and from 1827 to 1834 also taught free of charge in the field of natural sciences at the Collegium Carolinum, giving lectures on botany . At the end of 1843 he ended his activity at the Realgymnasium due to a hearing impairment, where he worked from 1825 (until 1828 the Realinstitut founded by August Heinrich Werner Brandes ) and at the Progymnasium.

Lachmann was involved in several social projects and founded, for example, an “Association for Doctors in Need” or the “Mäßigkeitsverein”. During his time as an active Freemason, Brother Franz Heinrich August Lachmann, he wrote a treatise on the history of the Lodge "Carl to the Crowned Column", which was published in 1844.

On May 22, 1869 he celebrated his 50th anniversary as a doctor and his appointment to the medical council.

family

Lachmann had two brothers, an older one, the philologist Karl Lachmann (1793-1851), and a younger one, the physician and founder of the Institute for the Blind in Braunschweig, Wilhelm Lachmann (1801-1861). His son was the botanist Johannes Lachmann .
