Heinz-Horst Schrey

Heinz-Horst Schrey ( September 16, 1911 in Freiburg im Breisgau - August 14, 1993 in Heidelberg ) was a German Protestant theologian and university professor. His main research interests were ethics and social philosophy .

Life

Schrey's parents were the Proviantamt-Unterinspektor Heinrich Schrey and Luise, geb. Difference. Since his father was transferred to the directorate of the district administration office V in Stuttgart in 1919, Schrey attended the Karlsgymnasium there up to the fifth grade. After the state examination he entered the lower ev.-theol. Seminars in Schöntal and Urach , passed the matriculation examination in 1930 and initially studied theology for three semesters at the Evangelical Monastery in Tübingen . He devoted one semester each in Berlin and Marburg to studying church history (Luther) and the New Testament. He completed the last four semesters again in Tübingen, passed his first theological examination in the summer of 1934 and became parish administrator in Creglingen an der Tauber. In autumn he won the prize for a scientific prize work from the theological faculty in Tübingen on the subject of the recent investigations into the problem of the mass and its significance for church preaching , which later became the basis for his dissertation . In the fall of 1935 he was sent to New York City by the German Academic Exchange Service , where he studied for a year at Union Theological Seminary (with Paul Tillich and Reinhold Niebuhr, among others ) and obtained a master's degree in theology. After a five-week stay in England, he returned to Germany at the end of July 1937 and took up a position as an assistant at the preacher's institute at the University of Tübingen . There he was promoted to Dr. theol. PhD.

In 1946 he completed his habilitation in Tübingen for systematic theology . He worked as a private lecturer and later as an adjunct professor in Tübingen, interrupted by substitute professorships in Bonn and Marburg. In 1957 he became a professor at the University of Education in Berlin . In 1962 he moved to the Heidelberg University of Education , where he also served as rector until April 1965 . In 1977 he retired .
