Heinz Eyrich

Heinz Eyrich (born February 1, 1929 in Tuttlingen ; † August 28, 2015 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German lawyer and CDU politician who held various ministerial posts in Baden-Württemberg between 1978 and 1992 .

education and profession

After graduating from high school in 1948, Eyrich studied law and political science at the University of Freiburg , where he received his doctorate in 1953. jur. PhD . In 1952 and 1957 he took his state exams. He then worked as a court assessor in Freiburg, and later as a public prosecutor.

Political activity

Since 1955, Eyrich became politically active when he joined the CDU. From 1962 to 1969 he was a member of the municipal council of the city of Freiburg. In 1965 he was chairman of the Junge Union in southern Baden for four years . In 1969 Eyrich was elected to the German Bundestag , to which he was a member until 1978.

After the resignation of Prime Minister Hans Filbinger in Baden-Württemberg in 1978, his successor Lothar Späth brought him into his cabinet. Eyrich became Minister of Justice of Baden-Württemberg . He held this office until 1991. In 1980 Eyrich also moved into the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg as a member of parliament.

In 1983, after the resignation of Interior Minister Roman Herzog , Eyrich took over the office of Interior Minister of Baden-Württemberg for a few months. After the state elections in 1984, the Ministry of Justice was also assigned the representation of the state at the federal level. Eyrich was thus Minister of Justice and Minister for Federal Affairs, from 1987 also for European affairs. After Späth resigned as Prime Minister in 1991, his successor Erwin Teufel took him over into his first cabinet and made him responsible for federal and European affairs. However, the new Minister of Justice was Helmut Ohnewald .

After the state election in 1992, Eyrich lost his direct mandate in the state parliament. The country was then ruled by a grand coalition . Eyrich had to give up his ministerial office. He then worked as a lawyer in Müllheim / Baden.

Family and private

Eyrich was married to Elfriede born in 1956. Fisherman and father of a son and a daughter. He died on August 28, 2015 at the age of 86 in Freiburg of complications from a lung disease.

Other offices and awards

In addition to his political activities, Eyrich was also culturally active. For a long time he was President of the German Singers Association (DSB) .

In 1981 he was awarded the Senator Lothar Danner Medal . In 1984 Eyrich received the Great Federal Cross of Merit and on May 9, 1987 the Medal of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg . In 2009, Prime Minister Günther Oettinger honored him with the Great Staufer Medal in Gold.
