history

In 1871 Carl Heinrich Hellmann started his own business in Osnabrück as a freight forwarder . He transported goods with horse-drawn vehicles . His sons Heinrich and Friedrich Hellmann continued the company and changed the name in 1906 to “Gebr. Hellmann ". The company grew steadily; In 1935 it had 60 employees. In 1916 Friedrich Hellmann fell in World War I and the youngest son Emil took over his shares. In the Second World War, the entire company was destroyed and a complete rebuilding took place on the barracks of the former Reichsbahn.

After the end of the Second World War , Heinrich Hellmann's son Heinz and Emil Hellmann's son Joachim took over the company in the third generation. The Hellmann brothers opened a branch in Hamburg in 1949 , and another was added in Bremen in 1953 . As early as 1959, Heinz Hellmann and Emil Hellmann's son Joachim laid the foundation for general cargo networks by founding the “11er-Kreis” of friendly freight forwarders. The “11er-Kreis” is still the basis for the System Alliance cooperation network . Due to the expansion, the cousins Heinz and Joachim put a new handling facility for forwarding groupage into operation at today's company headquarters on Elbestrasse in Osnabrück. It had the first underground chain conveyor in Europe. During this time the coal trade and the furniture transport company were introduced.

After Heinz Hellmann's death, his son Klaus Hellmann joined the company in 1976. Together with Joachim Hellmann's son Jost, he took over management of the company in 1983. In the same year Hellmann founded the parcel service DPD with other transport companies , which was later sold to the French La Poste . The establishment of the global branch network began in 1982 with the establishment of the first foreign branch in Hong Kong.

Since 1999 the company has been operating under the name "Hellmann Worldwide Logistics".

In November 2005, Lower Saxony's Prime Minister Christian Wulff honored partner Klaus Hellmann with the Cross of Merit on the ribbon of the Lower Saxony Order of Merit . Wulff justified the award with the diverse voluntary work of Hellmann, who acts ethically and sustainably as an entrepreneur.

The company has been trading as SE & Co. KG since December 1, 2017. The company's shareholders are Klaus Hellmann and Jost Hellmann. The board consists of Reiner Heiken (CEO) and Dr. Michael Noth (CFO).

social commitment

The owners have always been committed to social issues. The 4th generation with Klaus and Jost Hellmann continued this tradition with many social projects. In 2011, Hellmann Worldwide Logistics ensured that the exhibition of the United Buddy Bears - The Minis , an “Action for Peace and Tolerance”, came to Havana . The activities surrounding this exhibition generated donations amounting to 120,000 euros, which will benefit the Osnabrück Zoo and several children's facilities.

To mark the 350th anniversary of the Peace of Westphalia, a “peace store” was built on the Osnabrück premises by the artist HA Schult and at the end a concert with Justus Frantz was given in front of 1,200 guests. The proceeds went to the Friedensdorf in Oberhausen, where children from crisis areas are cared for. In addition, there were many projects in the education sector in Germany, but also abroad, and support for social institutions. In addition to the social projects, a large number of ecological projects were initiated, for example the use of alternative fuels, building the peace gardens and tree planting and much more.
