biography
From 1955, after completing an apprenticeship, Hellmut Ehrath made his first professional experience as a graphic artist. From 1958 to 1962 he studied free graphics and painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart with Rolf Daudert and Manfred Henninger . After that he traveled mainly to several countries in the Middle East and Sudan . From 1962 to 1978 he was a draftsman and illustrator of medical cartoons and advertising films . From 1978 he worked as a freelance graphic artist and draftsman for various specialist book publishers and medical companies.
After training as a welder from 1977 to 1978, large objects were made from scrap metal and telephone books in his own workshop . Ehrath created watercolors , paintings and drawings with graphite , pen or brush . After successfully participating in competitions on art in buildings , numerous works of art were created in public spaces . The earlier works of art in architecture were still abstract, but from around 1990 the influence of the trips that Ehrath had made to many Far Eastern countries, to Nepal , India and Africa became apparent . In sculptures, objects, pictures, drawings and calligraphy , he developed his own language of form between representationalism and abstraction.
