Districts of Oerlinghausen

Helpup is a district of Oerlinghausen in the Lippe district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Geographical location

The place has about 4780 inhabitants (as of 2008) and is located north of the Teutoburg Forest , directly on the B 66 between Bielefeld and Lage . The Haferbach flows through Helpup .

history

500 years ago Helpup consisted of a collection of individual farms and the associated arable land in the villages of Währentrup, Mackenbruch and Wellentrup. The centerpiece was the Alte Krug, which still exists today, a half-timbered house built in 1829 on the old site . In 1770 Helpup officially got the first school in a private house, until 1800 a two-class school was built at Detmolder Straße 66.

On March 20, 1908, the communities Mackenbruch, Währentrup, Wellentrup and Greste received their own church across from the Alten Krug. The Evangelical Reformed Church was inaugurated on March 20, 1908 in the presence of Prince Leopold IV of Lippe . At the beginning of the 20th century, the name Helpup became more and more popular. The church (1908), the sports club (1911), the Liedertafel (1913) and the post office (1913) bore the new name. Even Kachtenhausen station was renamed Helpup station in 1913.

By 1910 the municipalities of Währentrup (826 inhabitants), Wellentrup (885) and Mackenbruch (450) , which were then part of the Oerlinghausen district, already had over 2,150 inhabitants.

On April 1, 1957, the Helpup community emerged from the formerly independent communities of Währentrup and Mackenbruch and parts of the Wellentrup community . On January 1, 1960 Helpup had a population of 3,243. Albrecht Heißenberg was Helpup's first mayor. The independence lasted only twelve years and ended on January 1, 1969 with the incorporation into the city of Oerlinghausen.

Surname

The host family of the Alten Krug gave the place its name to Helpup. The innkeeper was only called Helpup throughout his life . Since the restaurant he founded before 1640 was at the beginning of the long ascent to the Teutoburg Forest , he offered his services to the passing wagons. The call help up signaled to him that an additional team was needed to cope with the steep ascent to Oerlinghausen. This story is represented in the Helpuper coat of arms.
