Henner Löffler (born July 9, 1943 in Dresden ) is a German author , translator and patron . He lives in Cologne and Toronto .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1962, Henner Löffler began studying economics , sociology and political science in Cologne, which he completed in 1968 with his thesis on the theory of totalitarianism. He broke off his dissertation on territorial behavior in animals and humans in 1969.

He began to work in industry and worked for a medium-sized multinational company until 1984, most recently as director of sales and marketing. After a leveraged buyout , Löffler saw himself since 1988 as a "privateer with a few supervisory board mandates .... Otherwise, reading and writing and working as a silent partner in literary publishers." (Quoted from self-portrayal.)

Since then he has built up an art collection and has been heavily involved as a patron and sponsor in the fields of charity, literature, theater, music and the visual arts. In 1996 Löffler founded the Heimito von Doderer Literature Prize , with which he wants to keep alive the memory of the poet Heimito von Doderer on the one hand and to draw the public's attention to contemporary authors on the other. Prize winners included Ror Wolf , Martin Mosebach , Walter Kempowski , Galsan Tschinag , Felicitas Hoppe , Anne Weber , Gerhard Polt , Daniel Kehlmann , Anna Katharina Hahn and Heinrich Steinfest . The prize was awarded for the last time in 2010.

Löffler wrote about Carl Barks , Charles Dickens , Heimito von Doderer, Arthur Conan Doyle , Vladimir Nabokov and Marcel Proust , among others . His collection of essays Doderer-ABC was published in 2000. Here Löffler guides you through Doderer's work with essays on 100 key words. The volume also contains a complete list of people with comments and shows the various connections in Doderer's complete works. The book was accepted as a dissertation by the University of Vienna in 2002 .

In his 2004 encyclopedia Wie Entenhausen - die Ducks von A - Z he honors Carl Barks as an important writer and illustrator. In articles on over 50 key words, Löffler presents the cosmos of Duckburg with its animal-human staff in detail. Because, according to Löffler, Barks is not only part of the history of comics , but also shaped the history of 20th century literature as a whole.
