Henning May (born Henning Gemke in Cologne on January 13, 1992 ) is a German musician. He is the singer of the band AnnenMayKantereit .

Life

Henning May was born in Cologne in 1992 and grew up with his father together with his brother. His mother left the family when he was very young. After graduating from the Schiller-Gymnasium in 2011 , he founded the band AnnenMayKantereit, named after them, together with Christopher Annen and Severin Kantereit. The hallmark of the group is May's deep, rough voice.

The band's breakthrough came with the album Alles nix Konkretes , which was released via Vertigo Berlin and reached first place in the German charts as well as a triple gold award. In 2015, a guest contribution by Henning May appeared on the title track of the album Hurra die Welt geht unter von KIZ . The single reached number 31 in the German charts. In 2019 May released the song Missing with the rapper Juju . With that he achieved his first number one single hit in Germany and received the 1-Live-Krone in the category Best Single . In 2017 May took part as a speaker in a radio play project for children: Drachenreiter 3 - Die Vulkan-Mission. The audio book Die Drei ??? was published in February 2020. and the strange alarm clock , which May reads in full this time.

In addition to his work as a singer, May is politically and socially involved. Among other things, he supports the Fridays for Future movement and performed at the anniversary celebration of the Greens in Berlin.
