Hermann Tüchle

Hermann Tüchle (born November 7, 1905 in Esslingen am Neckar , † August 22, 1986 in Fürstenfeldbruck ) was a German church historian .

Life

Tüchle was born in Esslingen in 1905 as the son of a locomotive driver. He studied at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Tübingen and passed the exam in 1929 with "excellent". He was ordained a priest on April 5, 1930 and served as vicar for several years.

In 1935 he was given leave of absence in order to be able to continue studying. Two years later he received his doctorate in theology with Karl Bihlmeyer (1874–1942) in Tübingen with the grade magna cum laude . His dissertation was on the church policy of Duke Karl Alexander von Württemberg . In 1940 he completed his habilitation with a thesis on church and altar consecrations in the diocese of Constance . In 1946 he was appointed private lecturer and in 1948 an extraordinary professor. Three years later he was appointed Professor of Church History in Paderborn and finally, in 1952, as successor to Franz Xaver Seppelt, Professor of Church History of the Middle Ages and Modern Times at the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the University of Munich .

Until his retirement in 1971 he taught in Munich. In 1975 he was appointed papal honorary prelate and in 1986 he received the State Medal of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg . Tüchle was also a board member of the History Association of the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart .
