Hermann Wichers

Hermann Wichers (born June 14, 1958 in Meppen ) is a German - Swiss historian and archivist .

Wichers studied history and social sciences at the universities of Darmstadt and Bonn and received his doctorate in 1993, Dr. phil. at the University of Basel with a thesis on German socialists in exile in Switzerland, 1933–1940 . From 1991 to 1996 Wichers was assistant at the history department of the same university. Since 1996 he has been working as archivist (head of usage and library) at the Basel-Stadt State Archives ; since 2012 lecturer at the Department of History at the University of Basel.

With Hans Berner and Claudius Sieber-Lehmann , Wichers published a short history of the city of Basel in 2008 and 2012 (2nd edition) . He is editor of the Basel magazine for history and antiquity . He is also the author of numerous personal articles in the Historical Lexicon of Switzerland .
