Herzhausen is a district of the municipality of Vöhl in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district , Hesse ( Germany ).

Geographical location

Herzhausen is located around four kilometers (as the crow flies ) west-southwest of Vöhl, the core town of the municipality, directly on the influence of the Eder (at river kilometer 70.2) in the western end of the Edersee and on that of the Itter in the Eder. It is located in the extreme northwestern part of the Kellerwald-Edersee Nature Park, which frames the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park to the south of the reservoir . The "National Park Center Kellerwald" is located south of Herzhausen along the federal road 252 leading through the village and the Edertal to the Kirchlotheim part of the municipality . Opposite is the Teichmann leisure facility with a swimming lake, campsite and restaurants. Several long-distance hiking trails lead through Herzhausen , including the Kellerwaldsteig .

history

In the area around Herzhausen there are evidence of early settlement: several barrows from the Bronze Age lie on the heights on both sides of the lower Itter. To the north-west of the village there are still remains of an old fortress from the Latène period , the Höckelsburg . On the "Ossenbühl", south of the village, an old court place ( Thingstätte ) is mentioned.

In the 8th or 9th century, the Ehrenburg was built northeast of Herzhausen . In 1254 the place was first mentioned in the inventory of the Haina monastery .

In the first decade of the 18th century, Landgrave Ernst Ludwig von Hessen-Darmstadt had the Brumm mountain ridge and then the mining inspector Ludwig Balthasar Müller near Herzhausen an der Itter and its tributaries Marbeck and Wennebach attempted gold washing , but this was discontinued as unprofitable after considerable investments. (In 1709, Müller found minable copper ore near Thalitter and then founded the high-yield copper mining there .)

Territorial reform

On February 1, 1971, the municipalities of Dorfitter , Thalitter and Herzhausen merged to form the municipality of Ittertal as part of the regional reform in Hesse . On 1 January 1974, the municipality Ittertal was powerful state law with Hessenstein (consisting of the former municipalities Buchenberg , Ederbringhausen , Harbshausen , Kirchlotheim , Niederorke , Oberorke and Schmittlotheim ), Marie Hagen , Obernburg and Vohl for new large village Vöhl together . Local districts were established for all formerly independent communities .

Railway line

The Warburg – Sarnau railway was opened in 1900 with a train station in Herzhausen, but was shut down in 1987. Recommissioning was required for years. Since September 11, 2015, trains have stopped again on the Warburg – Sarnau line in Herzhausen. The line connects Brilon and Korbach via Herzhausen with Frankenberg (Eder) and Marburg (Lahn) ; in Korbach there is a connection to Kassel. Instead of the old train station to the south of the town, a nearby stop was set up, which was given the nickname National Park train station .
