Hillsboro is a city in Washington County , the State of Oregon . It is the county seat of the county, has a population of around 105,000 (2016 estimate, US Census Bureau) and is located in the metropolitan area of Portland (Metropolitan Statistical Area Portland-Vancouver-Hillsboro), the population of which the US Census Bureau puts at over 2.4 million.

The city lies in the valley of the Tualatin River, which forms the southern city limits. Portland is about 25 kilometers east, with the parish of Beaverton in between . If you drive the Tualatin Valley Highway in Hillsboro, you have a unique view of the mountain strip towards the coast and in the opposite direction the view of the Mt. Hood volcano .

history

Hillsboro was founded by David Hill in the 1840s, but at that time still consisted of the two towns of East Tualatin Plains and Columbia . After Hill's death it was renamed Hillsborough in his honor ; the name was later simplified to the current form.

In the past few years, high-tech companies in particular have settled in the area, which is why it is also known as “ Silicon Forest ”. Large companies such as Nike , Fujitsu , Epson , SolarWorld , TriQuint Semiconductor , NEC , Maxim Integrated Products and Intel provide jobs in Hillsboro . Sun Microsystems High-End Operations and Lattice Semiconductor Corporation are based in Hillsboro.

Events and sights

Every year the "Washington County Fair" , a mixture of cattle market , fair and colorful program, attracts numerous visitors from the surrounding area to Hillsboro. Another attraction is the annual Oregon International Airshow .

Registered Historic Places

In the city of Hillsboro there are some in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) registered objects, including the north to the city, in 1876, completed Tualatin Plains Presbyterian Church or the Imbrie farm to which a 1866 built house and a barn belonging to by McMenamins into a brewery . were converted. The Harold Wass Ray House is located near Intel- owned Hawthorne Farm.
