Hilmar Baumann

Hilmar Baumann (born January 7, 1939 in Ludwigsfelde , Teltow district ; † January 27, 2018 in Berlin ) was a German film and theater actor who has worked in over 80 DEFA and DFF film productions.

Life

After the end of the Second World War , his father and his family were deported to the Soviet Union by the Red Army . After the family was allowed to return to Germany in 1953, Baumann took his high school diploma and worked for a few months in an engine factory in Roßlau before he decided to study acting at the Potsdam Film and Television Academy in 1958 . He graduated with honors in 1961, followed by theater engagements in Bautzen, Halle and from 1968 at the Maxim-Gorki-Theater in Berlin, where he worked as an actor until he retired.

In addition to stage work, he was also active in East German film productions for DEFA and DFF . Among his best-known roles were the 1970s Goethe films by film director Egon Günthers , such as The Sorrows of Young Werther (1977).
